The Christmas Season is upon us once again! For many this means a notably slower period for rentals as most folks tend to focus more on family and gift giving than moving and storing. To others, it’s time to deck out the rental office with festive holiday decorations, offer up hot cocoa with marshmallows to anyone who visits them and play endless Christmas music on the radio.
To many it’s an opportunity to celebrate the important religious meaning of the holiday. Still others begin their annual rites of tradition which include baking cookies, shopping for gifts, being more kind and generous to those with needs, and to my wife and two daughters it’s some of the best sales of the year in the stores!
I believe Christmas is a time of family traditions. No matter what your nationality, if you celebrate Christmas you most likely have family traditions. For me these are linked to very fond memories of crowded dinners at the home of relatives. As a parent we watch the joy of our children on Christmas day as they tear into their gifts with wide eyes and excited smiles. We appreciate the special gift a child has selected for us even if we’re not really sure what it is.
Then comes the immediate afterglow as the day progresses. No work today, no email, no phones ringing, no late calls to make, not even daily processing. Just time to be with family, maybe watch a football game in between assembling toys for the younger ones.
Think about your own Christmas traditions and be ready to really enjoy them. If you don’t really have any, create some new ones. And if you know anyone who might be alone on this special day, invite them to join you.
Merry Christmas and best wishes for a prosperous New Year!
