Live from Hong Kong (International Airport)

Welcome to Ben's Travel Blog! Well, that's the feeling at least. I have been very busy flying all over the world training new staff on the various aspects of StorMan. I’m currently writing this sitting in the airport lounge at Hong Kong international airport after a terrific Hong Kong Self Storage Association meeting yesterday. I am currently on my way to a second meeting in Singapore.

It's great to see that the storage industry transcends the cultural barriers and can be delivered to the same quality no matter what country you are in. Hong Kong, believe it or not, has over 150 self storage facilities; granted they are much smaller than the traditional Australian 500 unit facility.

Many storage businesses over here have to lease their premises and, therefore, tend to be smaller in size - at an average of 150 units. In addition, the leases on the buildings themselves are generally shorter - 5 years is fairly common, but these may span to 10 years if you're really lucky. As such, we had a very interesting presentation from Jes (Steel Storage Asia) on portable storage units. These aren’t the type you can put on the back of a truck - rather, they are more the type that you can disassemble and move from one storage location to another once your lease is up. Fantastic!

I have immensely enjoyed my time in Hong Kong and look forward to doing more business here. Thank you.

Regards,
Ben (General Manager, StorMan Australia).
