Firstly I must say hello - again - to everyone out there in StorMan land. Some of you may be aware I left for a short time, but StorMan is just like the Mafia - when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in. For those that didn’t know I was gone, just pretend I never left.
Late last year, I was given an awesome opportunity by Ben and the team at StorMan to pursue a dream of running my own business in Melbourne and can safely say now that I owe a great deal of my sanity to the friends I made in the previous 10 years in storage. The product I was selling was no different to storage but I can comfortably just say that without the help of friends out there I would have made larger mistakes than the ones I did make.
The thanks I owe are many and varied - but firstly to Ben who let me go at the drop of a hat when the opportunity presented itself last year. Secretly I think he had a voodoo doll of me at my empty desk for a while but I certainly say that no bridges were burnt and probably why I find myself sitting here (chained to the desk this time though) writing this about to take on a most interesting and exciting challenge, but more on that later.
Secondly and in no order many thanks for the coffee’s and stories from Rob at Storex Self Storage in Dandenong, Melbourne and Andrew B from The Rock Self Storage in Croydon, Melbourne. These two fantastic guys were acquaintances I met through storage in the first place and both had great advice and stories from the wonderful world of franchise’s and allowed me to keep a level head when dealing with my own business and franchise. They were neither condescending nor judgemental but relayed their experiences and showed me that it wasn’t the end of the world. Thanks I owe you both a beer (or 2!).
So where does that put me? Firmly entrenched behind the desk here at StorMan again, but on an amazing ride. Later next month I will be jetting off to the wonderful U.S of A to spread the good word about StorMan and see if there is some knowledge I can pry out of them and apply back here. I will also be taking in a baseball game or 2 (go the cubs) and defiantly (yes that isn’t a spelling error) get to an NFL game or 2 (surely the KC Chiefs are due for a few more wins this year). I am sure there will be many stories of huge meals, language and accent issues, weird driving rituals and for some reason guns, but I will be more than happy to share these stories upon my return.
I am glad I am back amongst friends in an industry that never ceases to be fun and evolving and again thank you to everyone who helps make it that way. I look forward to the next steps with great excitement.
P.S Can someone please make sure Collingwood don’t win the AFL and the Broncos don’t win the NRL whilst I am away?.
Regards,
Timm (International Sales Representative, StorMan).
